When George Pennel established a bike shop down a narrow lane in Peebles in the 1950’s, little could he have imagined that some 60 years later the shop would have metamorphosed into one of the leading cycle shops in the Borders – and the first stockist in Scotland of Boardman Elite Series of bikes.
Latterly the business has been owned and run by Partners Ewan Gowrie and Gary Robson, having moved the business from “Pennel’s Vennel” (renamed to Pennel’s Close) to the current location at Old Tweeddale Garage, Innerleithen Road in June 2009.
With Ewan Gowrie retiring and Allan Dawson joining Gary Robson in the business the bike shop offers the experience and professionalism of Gary’s 20 years as a leading Scottish cyclist, combined with enthusiasm, passion and an interest in ‘all things bike’ shared by both Allan and Gary.

The old Tweeddale Garage was originally the home of Tweeddale Motors - founded in 1924. Tweeddale Motors subsequently moved to new, bigger premises behind the petrol station on the Edinburgh Road. They now operate a Black Circles franchise - a highly successful Peebles-based tyre services organisation.
