Peebles Burgh Silver Band
We are a friendly 3rd section brass band from Peebles dedicated to the playing and teaching of music throughout Peeblesshire and beyond. The genesis of the Royal Burgh of Peebles Silver Band would seem to be in the 'bands of music' which the militia regiments, including the Peeblesshire Militia, maintained during the Napoleonic Wars. Antique instruments, including the military 'Serpentine' in the possession of the Peebles Museum, would seem to confirm this. The first mention of a town band appears in the town council minutes for 1834. To this day the band makes a valuable contribution to local events such as the Beltane Festival, and through its role of offering musical tuition to the youth of the burgh.
