Peebles Outdoor Clubs

Over the last few years Peebles has become established as a centre for cycling - largely as a result of the development of Glentress, and then Innerleithen, as mountain biking centres, each with a range of excellent dedicated trails.  But there was a thriving road cycling community before that.  Well before mountain biking became established the hills of Peebles were popular with walkers and horse riders.  This mixed use continues to this day, and with all respecting both the countryside and each other it is set to continue into the future.

Alongside cycling and walking Peebles has a long sporting tradition.  The Borders is historically rugby union country - but more recently both football and hockey have grown in popularity (and success).

Peebles Orchestra was founded in 1976 and plays an important part in the cultural life of the area. The Orchestra is essentially a chamber orchestra with strings, double woodwind, horns and trumpets.

It's a community group and we welcome all interested players. Though we rehearse seriously, aiming for a high level of performance, our rehearsals are fun and enjoyed by all.

Peebles Music Groups

One of our oldest music groups is the Peebles Burgh Silver Band.  In fact it is one of the oldest brass bands in Scotland - and, as the town band, you'll see it leading the processions in the Beltane Festival.  One of our youngest is Strumash - the Peebles ukulele orchestra.  But Peebles is lucky to contain many talented musicians, some of whom you can hear playing regularly in Peebles Orchestra concerts and in numerous other ad hoc or more regular groups.

Central to many groups is the social enterprise Nomad Beat.  Here a talented and enthusiastic group of tutors brings music to the community - whether you want to drum, learn guitar, fiddle, keyboards, violin or access many traditional styles of music, Nomad Beat can usually help.  Founded through the effort and vision of the sadly missed Alison Cameron it helps many in the community enrich their lives through music.
